1 Get Started

To begin your self-guided education in data visualization, you should familiarize yourself with the basics. This includes understanding the principles of good design, such as clarity, accuracy, efficiency, and aesthetics. Start by exploring different types of charts and graphs, like bar charts, line graphs, scatter plots, and pie charts. Learn about the scenarios where each type is most effective. Additionally, you'll want to grasp the importance of color theory, typography, and layout in creating visuals that are not only informative but also engaging.

Based on my experience, I could see below 4 steps are key to self start your visualization journey:1. Learn SQL: Understand SQL concepts and practice querying data.2. Choose a Tool: Research and select a data visualization tool that aligns with your goals.3. Hands-On Practice: Get practical experience by creating visualizations and working on real-world projects.4. Share Your Work: Post your visualizations on LinkedIn and seek feedback.Last but not least, know how to provide option to export reports to Excel. 😉

Learning the tools is the second step after brushing up the basics. Learn the tool by not just mugging up the concepts, rather import a sample dataset and trying exploring and play with it. It might take some time to increase the speed of data visualization, but once you are well-versed with the options, it will be far more easier.

First, you need to understand the basics of data visualization, which means knowing how to represent data in visual formats like charts or graphs. This includes understanding things like what types of charts to use for different kinds of data and how to interpret them. After that, you should start using data visualization tools. These are software programs that help you create visual representations of data. Start with easy to use tools that let you drag and drop elements and use templates to make things easier. Once you're comfortable, you can move on to more advanced tools that give you more options to customize your visualizations. Pratique constantemente!

This is something I had never thought about previously, however I was often asked during a job interview about a portfolio. All I could say was the work I created was the property of my current or previous employer. While that IS true, the portfolio is when you follow along with a tutorial and create something, or create something you developed completely on your own for practice. All these items should be part of your portfolio.
