A treat for horror fans was released in 2023 in the form of Evil Dead Rise, which follows two sisters who find the part in Naturom Demonto and other religious artifacts. Directed by Lee Cronin, the movie is based on Sam Raimi’s characters.

The film didn’t satisfy the viewers as it didn’t have any element of horror in it; it was rather filled with gory scenes. Produced by Rob Tapert and Distributed by Warner Bros Pictures distributed, the film served injustice to the fans of the Evil Dead franchise. Evil Dead Rise did exceptionally well at the box office with a collection of $117.5 M, as fans were expecting a similar kind of horror as the first part of the film had.

Dave Garbert kept the audience bound to the film with his amazing cinematography skills. New Line Cinema and Pacific Renaissance Pictures undertook the development of Evil Dead Rise. The film was made available to the audience to watch on April 21, 2023. The film can get a sequel to continue the Evil Dead Rise franchise depending upon the response this film will receive from the public.

The film’s lead cast consists of Lily Sullivan, portraying the role of Beth, a guitar technician, and Ellie’s sister; AlyssaSutherlandplays the role of Ellie, the single mother of Bridget and Kassie and a tattoo artist; MorganDavies, portraying the role of Danny, Gabrielle Echolas portrayed the role of Bridget, Ellie’s daughter, Nell Fisher in the character of Kassie, another child of Ellie, Richard Crouchley in the role Caleb, Mirabai Pease played the character of Teresa, a young girl who is killed by her cousin.

Anna Maree portrayed the role of Jessica, the cousin who killed her cousin, Jayden Daniels, in the character of Gabriel; Billy Reynolds played the character of Jake, Tai Wano portrayed the character of Scott, and Mark Mitchinson played the role of Mr. Fonda. The film featured Brue Campbell’s voice in an uncredited role.

Evil Dead Rise: Premise

The film is a twisted tale of two sisters, Elli and Beth, who are estranged from each other and how their reunion is halted when a flesh-possessing demon rises and thrusts the sisters and their family into a game of survival. The film begins with a young Jesica and Teresa who are on vacation alongside Jessica’s boyfriend when a possessed Jessica kills Teresa and Caleb before she levitates above the lake.

The film moves forward and focuses on the two sisters. Beth, a guitar technician who, recently discovered she is pregnant and planned a visit to her sister’ Ellie’s house. Ellie also has her own struggles as she is the single mother of two teenagers and a toddler Kassie living at their home in Los Angeles. Danny discovers religious artifacts and a strange book from the concealed chamber, uncovered during the earthquake. Danny takes the items with him hoping to sell them to earn quick cash.

As the film moves forward, it gets revealed to be one of the Naturom Demonto books, and a priest’s research leads to the rise of the Deadlites, demonic entities. An isolated Ellie ends up getting possessed by a demonic entity when the power of the apartment goes out. Ellie, under possession, attacks her family in a trance before she dies after she pleads with her sister to keep her children safe.

Ellie gets laid to rest only to wake up again and haunt her family. As Beth tries to figure out an escape with Eliie’s children, only to realize there’s no way they could get out. Bridget is wounded after she is attacked by Elliebut Beth saves her and locks Ellie out of the house. Elli then goes on a killing spree as she goes killing the neighbors. Danny confesses to Beth about uncovering the book, and while they converse, Ellie gets Bridget to open the door only to attack her.

This leads to Bridget getting possessed by the demon, and Beth kills her having no choice. Danny is dead as Bridget killed him by stabbing him. Ellie attempts to take the fetus from Beth’s body once she realizes she is pregnant. Beth and Kassie take shelter in the damaged elevator to protect themselves from the possessed neighbors and Danny. The film ends with Beth and Kassie surviving the possession and leaving the apartment without looking back.

Dead Rise Filming Locations

The movie’s filming began on June 6, 2021, and wrapped up on October 27, 2021. The film was filmed mostly in New Zealand and the areas surrounding the country.

Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland is a beautiful, large metropolitan city in New Zealand that was used as the prominent location for the filming of the movie Evil Dead Rise. Most of the scenes from Evil dead rise are shot in an apartment building that was built for the filming. The apartment acted like a cabin in the woods, while the hallways of the building were utilized for the appearance of a forest.

The scene where Ellie tries to convince Kassie to open the door is shot in the hallway of the building. The scenes with Ellie attacking her family and killing the neighbors were shot in the studio apartment built by the crew for the film. Lee dropped the idea of a cabin in the woods for shooting in the city for the story he wanted to present to the audience. The house used for the movie’s filming of the film is going to be demolished.
